A trip to Brixton Sunday Farmers/ market and stuffing my bag with purple cauliflowers, black cabbage and a rather dinky looking pumpkin. I can't bring myself to hack a Halloween grimace and so it sits here intact in the kitchen looking plump orange, and seasonal.

More rich rich colour in the fresh beetroots which I roast in thin salty slivers to make the diy version of packaged root crisps that are rather expensive if you get the habit.
I have been catching up with Mad Men, which I never saw first time round. So much smoking, whisky and misogony. Nevertheless great characters, I swear I know a Don Draper and my eyes are dazzled by the outfits, so much colour. A kitsch and frosted housewifely cupcake isn/t so palatable after watching Betty Draper sweat the impossible domestic American dream.
Apple cake is a more equal opportunities thing, doesn/t demand much fuss in the kitchen and is autumnal as buying a new pair of warm ankle boots .

PS Have been out and about. Went to launch of The Middle Class ABC , but was more bowled over by a cooling lick of dill and cucumber ice cream - made by a girl who sells at Bermondsey market. I lost her card in the heaving middle class scrum.
Bubba/s in Tulse Hill is such good news for us locals who can eat delicious modern Caribbean cooking , or just enjoy a cocktail or glass of fizz, without heading off to the bright lights. The head chef, is also called Cumberbatch!
Forgotten how energising an open air swim is at the heated Oasis pool in the heart of Covent garden and followed by oysters and champagne at Sheekeys was a enormous treat from a great friend recently.
